The Health Ministry of Palestine deployed a team of emergency response and disaster medics to Ecuador on Monday in order to assist the country in its recovery efforts following a devastating 7.8 earthquake that struck the Andean nation Saturday, killing at least 350 people and injuring thousands more.

Palestinian Health Minister Jawad Awwad said in a statement that he had received instructions from President Mahmoud Abbas to send an aid package including medical professionals, supplies and medicine.

"We don't forget our friends, a deadly earthquake has hit Ecuador, there are many victims, we care for Ecuador and we will help the people of Ecuador no matter how moderate our capabilities are,” Faisal Abu Shahla, a representative of Fatah, stated.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki echoed Shahla's sentiments Monday, offering condolences to the families of the victims and promising to help Ecuador despite Palestine's "limited resources."

The Ecuadoran government donated food, medicine and clothes to Palestinians affected by Israel's devastating offensive on the Gaza Strip during the summer of 2014, when around 2,300 Palestinians were killed and over 10,000 were injured.
