Palestinian solidarity day marked in Hanoi

Nhan Dan – Marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (November 29) and the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations (HAUFO) in co-ordination with the Palestinian Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony in Hanoi on December 10.

At the ceremony, Ms. Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Co-ordinator in Vietnam read the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

In his message, the UN Secretary General wrote ‘This annual Solidarity Day is an opportunity to reflect on the critical situation faced by the Palestinian people and to consider our collective contributions and responsibilities as Governments, international or civil society organisations, towards Israeli-Palestinian peace’. He also asked the international community to work together to translate the solidarity expressed on this occasion into positive action for peace and justice.

Speaking at the ceremony, Palestinian Ambassador to Vietnam Saadi Salama spoke highly of the long lasting solidarity and warm support of Vietnamese people and worldwide peace and progress loving people, who stand with the Palestinian people in their efforts to gain a just peace.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Khai, Chairman of the Vietnam-Palestine Friendship Association, affirmed Vietnamese people’s consistent solidarity with Palestinian people and their wish to further develop traditional friendship and multifaceted co-operation with the State of Palestine.
