Inscribing Hebron as World Heritage under Threat is a Victory for Tolerance and Diversity

Today, 7 July 2017, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee upheld its primary responsibility to recognize world heritage sites, preserve them and protect them from dangers threatening the loss of a piece of history invaluable to human heritage. Today, the absolute majority of members made the only logical and correct decision; recognizing that the Old City of Hebron is part of World Heritage under threat. Today, Palestine and the world, through UNESCO, celebrate Hebron as part of world heritage, a value that transcends geography, religion, politics, and ideology.

PLO Secretary-General Dr Saeb Erekat on Amnesty International Campaign to Ban Israeli Settlement Products
Thursday, 08 June 2017 10:50

Press Releases

June 07, 2017

We welcome the campaign of Amnesty International to ban all Israeli settlement products from international markets. This has been a longstanding Palestinian demand from the international community. Rather than a political position, this is a legal obligation on all States.  There is no need to reiterate that settlements are illegal under international law while still allowing their products to be traded in international markets. Israel’s colonial settlement enterprise negates the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

A few days ago Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu pledged to continue building illegal colonial-settlements, while he takes pride in being the first Israeli PM to build new settlements after the Oslo Agreement. The world should not continue to tolerate this. Accountability is the only way to end the occupation and achieve a just and lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

PLO Secretary-General Dr. Saeb Erekat marking 50 years of Israeli Occupation: This is a shame for the International System
Monday, 05 June 2017 15:11

Press Releases - June 04, 2017

We are marking 50 years since a deliberate Israeli attack resulted in Israel occupying the 22% of historic Palestine that had been left since  1948. It was clear since then that, what Israel wanted was not a “temporary occupation”, but a colonial settlement strategy aimed at taking as much as Palestinian land and natural resources as possible. In defiance of its obligations under International Law and UN resolutions, Israel has strengthened its colonial policies for the past 50 years.

A Message from H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas marking 50 years of Israeli Occupation
Monday, 05 June 2017 11:01

Our challenge as Palestinians is greater than ever. After 50 years, we are the only remaining people in the world who still live under occupation. And it has been over 100 years that we have been actively denied our right to self-determination, along with all the hardships associated with the denial of that right: exile and forced displacement, occupation and subjugation, harassment and incarceration. There is no doubt that the balance of power is still weighted firmly against us. But I believe in our people and I believe that, even in these circumstances, we can and will prevail. We have truth on our side and strength in our hearts.
