Roundtable discussion about Arab Spring co-organized by Palestine Embassy and IAMES in Hanoi

Hanoi - On Friday 8th May 2015, the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Hanoi and the Institute for Africa and Middle East Studies (IAMES) of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences co-organized a roundtable discussion entitled “The repercussions of the Arab Spring on the Political and Economic Situation in the Middle East”.

Among the VIP guests attending the ceremony were Mr. Saadi Salama - Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Vietnam, Dr. Samir Abdullah Ali - Director of Research at the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute, former Minister of Planning and Minister of Labor of the State of Palestine and Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Acting Director General of the Institute for Africa and Middle East Studies (IAMES). The event also brought together representatives from embassies and diplomatic representative agencies in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, the Vietnam – Palestine Friendship Association, and a large number of the staff from institutes of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung, IAMES Acting Director General, expressed the honor and happiness to welcome Dr. Samir Ali and all other participants to the discussion and believed that this event would be an opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of recent developments in the Middle East. He hoped that this roundtable discussion would be the beginning of the further cooperation between the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute and the Institute for Africa and Middle East Studies.

Mr. Saadi Salama,Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Hanoi, thanked the Institute for Africa and Middle East Studies for co-organizing the event and expressed his belief that this discussion would be an opportunity to strengthen the friendship relations between Palestine and Vietnam and promote the understanding of Vietnamese and international friends of the political and economic situation in the Middle East in general, and in Palestine in particular.

After the informative talk about the repercussions of the Arab Spring on the Political and Economic Situation in the Middle East, Dr. Samir Ali and the participants had an open and interesting discussion about related issues.
