Talk on Israeli aggression against Palestinian people held in Hanoi

Hanoi - On August 20th 2014, The Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with Palestinian People, The Vietnam Committee for Asian-African-Latin American Solidarity and Cooperation, The Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation, The Vietnam Peace Committee and the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Vietnam co-organized a talk on the Israeli aggression against Palestinian people in Gaza.

Mr. Ho Anh Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, said that Vietnam has voiced its opposition to the use of force against civilians in the Gaza Strip, and urged the parties concerned to immediately halt it and hold negotiations for a solution to the conflict.

Dung also stressed that in July his organisation and the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity and Cooperation with Asia, Africa and Latin America, the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation and the Vietnam Peace Committee issued a joint statement calling on all parties to abide by international law and cooperate with the international community for prompt restoration of peace and stability in the region.

Speaking at the event, Palestinian Ambassador to Vietnam Saadi Salama highly appreciated the steadfast support of Vietnam for the legitimate struggle of Palestinian people, as well as Vietnam’s voting in favor of opening an investigation into possible war crimes in the Gaza Strip at the recent vote of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Ambassador Saadi Salama said that with every moment that passes, the life of another Palestinian child or mother or father is cruelly taken by the Israeli occupying forces in their murderous rampage of airstrikes and artillery bombardment against civilian areas and then a massive ground invasion in the Gaza Strip, threatening the safety and survival of the entire Palestinian civilian population.

Palestinian Ambassador called on the international community to strongly denounce the Israel's criminal assault on the Occupied State of Palestine and provide the whole strip with humanitarian assistance, while working on collecting international commitment to the process of reconstructing the strip with international guarantees by Israel not to re-attack the sector in the future.

Ambassador Saadi Salama also called on the international community to lend all support possible to the long-running efforts to achieve a just, lasting and peaceful settlement and the long-overdue realization by the Palestinian of their rights and national aspirations, including to freedom and independence in their State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On this occasion, some Vietnamese officials who studied and worked in the Middle East and Africa expressed deep condolences to families of the victims in the Gaza Strip as well as their desire for peace on this land.
