Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Israel's Settlement Construction Destroys Peace Efforts

RAMALLAH, March 4, 2014 (WAFA) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday the Israeli government is destroying the peace process and the U.S. peace efforts by expanding settlement activities in the Palestinian Territory.

The statement came in response to a report by the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics which said settlement construction in the West Bank increased by 123% in 2013, which proves the settlement policy of Netanyahu’s government.

“Netanyahu’s government is working day and night to destroy the two-state solution, undermine the peace opportunity in hand and destroy the U.S. and the international efforts for peace,” said the statement.

“Israel even exploits the negotiations for seizing more lands, expanding settlements, Judaizing the occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly Jerusalem, in addition to destroying the potential of a viable state of Palestine that is geographically contiguous.”

The ministry warned of the repercussions of the continuing settlement construction and, therefore, called upon all countries and the International Quartet, especially the U.S., to take the necessary actions to immediately stop settlement building.

“These official Israeli figures require from all countries to take an explicit binding decision by the UN Security Council forcing Israel to immediately stop settlement construction.”
