Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) praised the European countries’ psoition that rejects US President Donald Trump’s latest decisions on Jerusalem, including declaring it as the capital of the state of Israel and relocating US embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem.

Erekat met with EU's Special Representative for Middle East peace process, Fernando Gentilini, in Ramallah and briefed him on the latest developments at the regional and international arenas.

The PLO official expressed profound appreciation for EU countries’ adherence to the two-state solution on the 1967 borders and the embodiment of independence for the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, noting that this position was confidently expressed by EU's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

Erekat called on the EU countries to recognize the state of Palestine on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital and to impose a comprehensive boycott on Israeli 'colonial settlements’ as stipulated in UN Security Council resolution 2434.

He thanked the EU countries for providing assistance for the Palestinian people in all fields, calling to provide UNRWA with all that it needs to ensure the continuity of its essential work in service of Palestine refugees.
