The Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Palestine and Al-Quds in Indonesia has adopted “Jakarta Declaration”. The Declaration reaffirmed OIC's support for the right of self-determination of the Palestinian people and urged the UN’s Security Council to put forward solutions to Israel’s illegal settlement construction which destroys the two-state solution. 

Recently, the international community has repeatedly launched initiatives to promote the Middle East peace process. France proposed an international peace conference aimed at resuming the peace process between Israel and Palestine. Paris warned that France would recognize the State of Palestine if this initiative failed. 

The United Nations and European Union (EU) called for the end of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories as well the expansion of its illegal settlements. The US also reaffirmed their commitment to pursue the two-state solution. 

However, Israel continues to turn a deaf ear to those calls. Jewish illegal settlements continue to be expanded, houses of the Palestinian people continue to be destroyed. 

The prospects for resuming the Middle East peace negotiations remains dubious. The wave of violence between the Palestinian people and the Israelis since the beginning of October 2015 has so far killed 180 Palestinian people and more than 30 Israeli people. 

Israel must awake to the conscience and the right!
