PLO Erekat: Israel’s Lack of Justice Could Result in More Victims

RAMALLAH, September 7, 2015 (WAFA) – Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Saeb Erekat, said the assassination of the Dawabsheh family by Jewish fanatics reflects the clear connection between hate speech, settlement expansion and the impunity granted to Israel by the International community.

The statement came after Riham, who suffered from critical third degree burns, was pronounced dead late Sunday night while receiving treatment, a month after the arson attack at her family's home in Nablus' village of Duma on July 31.

The father, Sa'ad was also killed nearly a week after the attack. The second and last member of the family to remain alive, Ahmad, 4, is still receiving treatment and his health status was reported as improving.

“If Israel is not stopped and held accountable then Riham will not be the last victim of Israeli terror,” said Erekat, adding: “There is a culture of hate that has been developing in Israel by supporting settlements and Apartheid.”

He said the assassination of the Dawabsheh family reflects the “clear connection between hate speech, settlement expansion and the impunity granted to Israel by the International community.”

“In fact more hate-speech and incitement have been coming out from members of the Israeli government, more settler attacks have been carried and more Palestinians have been killed, injured and/or detained,” he said, voicing disappointment over the fact that over a month has passed without the Israeli government bringing the terrorists to justice.

“We hold the Israeli government fully responsible. Once again we call upon the international community to protect the Palestinian people under occupation, and to put an end to Israel's culture of impunity.”
