RAMALLAH (WAFA) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement Wednesday, that the repeated raids on al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers constitute a prelude for administering a temporal and spatial division of the mosque.

The ministry condemned Israeli Government’s continuing support and financing of these raids – by settlers, police officers or Jewish rabbis – which have noticeably increased very recently.

The ministry condemned an attack by settlers on Wednesday morning on the mosque, where they smashed some of the glass windows of the mosque. The settlers, who were led by internal security minister Yitzhak Aharonovich, also performed rituals and assaulted numerous worshipers, injuring 15 of them.

The ministry also condemned calls made by the Israeli Knesset Interior Committee to facilitate settlers’ raids into the mosque and provide them with the necessary protection.

The ministry stressed that it is exerting all efforts in order to mobilize a wide regional and international condemnations of Israel’s plans to divide the mosque and in order to request the provision of international protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites.
