 UPDATED SPECIAL REPORT

10 July 2014

Israel's Criminal Assault on the occupied State of Palestine

Gaza Under Fire

Introduction:

During   the   latest Israeli   aggression   against   the   Gaza   Strip,   Israel   has   killed 86 Palestinians   and injured more than 550. Just as during the Israeli bombardments of Gaza in 2006, 2008/9 and 2012, the vast majority of the victims are civilians, including children, elderly and women. This list includes the killing of several Palestinian families. This Israeli criminal assault aims at targeting Palestinian national unity, weakening Palestinian   institutions   and   enforce   disconnection   between   the   Gaza   Strip   and   the   rest   of   the Occupied State of Palestine.

Its methods include collective punishment of Palestinians thorough the occupied state of Palestine, killings,   injuries and   detentions.   During   the past   few   days, Israel has   bombed   vital civilian infrastructure,   including   the   water   line   that   provides   Al   Shati   Refugee   Camp   of   water   (70,000 people) as well as targeting the sewage plant which serves the neighborhood of   Tel Al Hawa, Al Shati   Camp,   Sheikh   Ajlin   and   the   western   Gaza   City   area.   Israel   also   targeted   the   Civil   Defense (Firefighters). This represents a further Israeli violation to the IV Geneva Convention.

Israel Still Occupies the Gaza Strip

Despite their withdrawal from the colonies inside Gaza in 2005, Israel continues to occupy the Gaza Strip. The disengagement merely transformed the military occupation from one of physical presence inside Gaza into an occupation by siege, aimed at separating Gaza from the rest of the Occupied State of Palestine. Israel still maintains effective control over Gaza’s airspace, territorial waters and border crossings for both persons and goods.

Attacks against the Palestinian people under occupation must stop

The   international   community is   under   a   moral,   political   and   legal   responsibility   to   protect   the Palestinian     people   and   to   put   an end   to Israeli aggressions   in Occupied     Palestine.   Israeli  bombardments and military offensives against the Palestinian people have left thousands dead and          injured, and mass destruction in their wake. The regular airstrikes and draconian siege against Gaza have left it unable to rebuild and redevelop its infrastructures in the aftermath of the major Israeli aggressions of July 2006, December 2008/January 2009 and November 2012. The people of Gaza still suffer   from   the   effects   of   Israeli   policies   of   separation   between   Gaza   and   the   rest   of   the Occupied State of Palestine.
